GX Network

In an interview with Jamaica Observer, veteran reggae artist Shyman reveals his journey from the streets of Kingston to becoming a national hero.

Born in 1960, Shyman grew up in a housing estate in the Trenchtown area of Kingston. He became involved in music at a young age, performing with various bands and eventually forming his own group, the Skints.

Shyman’s music career spans over three decades, during which he has released numerous singles and albums. His most famous song, “Dem a Wail”, was released in 1982 and became a huge hit in Jamaica.

In 2012, Shyman was awarded the Order of Distinction by the Jamaican government for his contributions to music. He has also received numerous other awards and accolades for his work.

Despite his success, Shyman has always remained humble and true to his roots. He continues to tour and perform throughout Jamaica and has also collaborated with other artists on various projects.

Shyman’s legacy as a reggae artist is a testament to his enduring impact on the music industry. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest reggae singers of all time, and his music continues to inspire new generations of fans.
