Caricom forms youth committee to help curb crime and violence
In a bid to tap into the energy and drive of the region’s youth, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has launched a new initiative to tackle the scourge of crime and violence. The CARICOM Youth Advisory Committee on the Prevention of Crime and Violence (YAC-PCV) is a fresh approach to addressing the root causes of youth disillusionment and social unrest.
The eight-member committee, comprising young people from across the region, has been tasked with providing a platform for open dialogue, peer-to-peer learning, and collective problem-solving. By harnessing the creativity, resilience, and resourcefulness of its youth members, the YAC-PCV aims to empower the next generation of Caribbean leaders to shape the future of their communities.
Through a collaborative approach, the YAC-PCV will work closely with regional governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to identify and address the root causes of crime and violence. By putting young voices at the forefront of the conversation, the committee seeks to develop evidence-based solutions that address the complex social, economic, and cultural factors driving these issues.
